Untitled (Face)
12” x 9” x 3 1/2”
Cast iron, picture frame
Not for sale
This sculpture started with a live-casting of my own face using a substance called alginate. After the material sets, I created a plaster mother-mold and cast my face in plaster. After some minor clean up, a silicone mold was made using the plaster face. It was then cast in wax, hair and texture cleanup, and then using ceramic shell to cast it in iron.
While the original idea was to cast only my face, it became an interesting exercise in self-reflection and seeing myself as something that is temporary.
